Joachim Goldberg - Managing Director, Founding Partner
To be honest, he actually wanted to become a teacher. But he decided it was more important to earn his own money as early as possible. This native freiburger did not study at a university, opting for a bank's trainee program instead.
In 1983 Joachim Goldberg began to specialize in "technical analysis" while working as a currency trader and became head of this department at Deutsche Bank AG, where he remained until 2000. He was inquisitive about the facets and elements behind individuals' interaction with the market. But charts and politico-economic principles did not provide an answer.
It was only when analyzing psychological influences on financial markets that this trained banking professional was able to make sense of what coheres the financial world at its innermost and daily moves markets. Consequently, since 1996, Behavioral Finance has become his focal point. This US-bred discipline for the capital markets synthesizes economics and psychology.
As co-founder and managing director of Cognitrend GmbH, Joachim Goldberg makes practical use of his scientific knowledge, mostly for computerized trading. He and co-author Rüdiger von Nitzsch, professor for Business Administration in Aachen, produced the book
"Behavioral Finance" which was first published in 1999 and is already in its third edition. An English translation has been available since February 2001, a Japanese edition since March 2002.
In Germany, Joachim Goldberg is a recognized expert in this field due to his regular radio and television (n-tv, Bloomberg und N24) appearances, numerous press contributions, as well as presentations on financial market psychology.
